Mirfz BLT Dry (Black Little Thing)In New Zealand we use two flies - a brown one and a black one!
Rene Vaz of Manic Tackle says: When it comes to tackling wary trout in the heavily fished Nelson area, you need patterns that are subtle but effective. This simple little black parachute is easy to spot in the surface film as it runs through riffles and has a clean profile of a classic mayfly dun. In overcast conditions or early morning when the water's surface goes silver you won't lose sight of this puppy! Zane Mirfin says: These are the flies we use for our own commercial guiding. They are original ZM designs tied on top quality NZ-style hooks to catch the big fish. Black flies are particularly successful in Eastern waters Sold by the dozen (12) only NZ $40 inc GST |

Mirfz BLT Nymph (Black Little Thing)![]() In New Zealand, we use two flies - a brown one and a black one!
Rene Vaz of Manic Tackle Project says: Slim, dark and handsome. This little guy has a surprising amount of weight with very little resistance in the water to hinder it's sink rate, making it a perfect little pattern for working deep runs. The black tungsten bead is hidden in the thorax and being tied with no flash or tinsel these patterns are a must for any NZ trout angler. Zane Mirfin says: Once you've fished black you'll never go back! This nymph really gets down to deep fish. Particularly good in Eastern waters. Sold by the dozen (12) only NZ $40 inc GST |
Mirfz BLT Nymph (Brown Little Thing)![]() In New Zealand, we use two flies - a black one and a brown one!
Rene Vaz of Manic Tackle Project says: Slim, tanned and handsome. This little guy has a surprising amount of weight with very little resistance in the water to hinder it's sink rate, making it a perfect little pattern for working deep runs. The copper tungsten bead is hidden in the thorax and being tied with no flash or tinsel these patterns are a must for any NZ trout angler. Zane Mirfin says: Perhaps the ultimate Mayfly pattern. This nymph really gets down to deep fish. Works everywhere trout swim! Sold by the dozen (12) only NZ $40 inc GST |
Mirfz Golden Caddis NymphRene Vaz of Manic Tackle Project says: Caddis are a frequently forgotten part of a trout's diet and as a result when you feel the fish have seen every fly pattern known to man, these little guys will come into their own. With a coffee coloured lucent bead, these quick sinking nuggets are sparse and dull enough to not raise suspicion on even the most wary of fish, whilst being packed with enough triggers to draw a response from everything that swims.
Zane Mirfin says: I've been fishing caddis nymphs like this since I was a boy. This golden caddis is the modern version of my original yellow caddis. If any other caddis pattern worked better I'd be using it! Sold by the dozen (12) only NZ $40 inc GST |
